In the Southern Dan style with a gritty patina and delicate feminine features, the encrusted surface of this mask creates the impression it could be made of archaic stone. This perceived sense contrasts with the delicate naturalistic features including a domed forehead, slit eyes, nose, pointed chin and full lips, the upper with a grooved philtrum. It appears to be a portrait. Carved in hard wood with circular holes around the edge with two additional rows on the forehead having two nails having coiled tips inserted.
